Eligibility:
Eligible applicants must be enrolled in grades 8 through 12 as of
May 2004. A proof of the grade level such as a copy of the grade
report or official letter from the school must accompany the application.
Audition recording: All applicants must submit
an unedited audio recording (CD or audiocassette tape, no videos)
containing two or three works or movements of larger works contrasting
in styles and periods (concerto movements are allowed).
Application: A completed application, a proof of
applicant’s current grade in school (see “Eligibility”),
non-refundable $25 application fee, and audio recording must be
postmarked by April 1st, 2004. Late applications
will be accepted if enrollment permits. A late application fee of
$40 must accompany all late application.
Notification: Twenty outstanding young pianists
are selected to participate in the festival. Applicants will be
notified of their status as soon as possible. Upon acceptance, the
participants will receive a letter of invitation to be signed and
returned by May 6th, 2004 postmark. All the fees
must be paid in full by that date.
Festival repertoire requirement: Students are asked
and encouraged to bring several solo piano works ready to perform
in lessons and master classes in addition to their repertoire for
the competition.
Housing: The festival is housed in the USC School
of Music – a state-of-the-art music facility with a beautiful
and intimate recital hall and excellent practice rooms. Room and
board are provided for all participants and guests on the picturesque
USC campus within walking distance of the School of Music. All participants
are required to live on campus where they reside under a professional
care of the university staff. The supportive atmosphere of learning
from each other’s musical experiences and the resulting lasting
friendships are part and parcel of the festival.
